Who We Are
Structure Studio is a boutique, comprehensive, structural engineering firm based in Malta.
With over 18 years of experience both in Malta and abroad, we provide bespoke solutions for clients and projects in a range of different areas. With a background in both architecture and structural engineering, it was decided to focus on the latter to offer a niche and specialised service to clients. We have worked on projects from vernacular townhouse conversions to prestigious commercial developments including bespoke engineering solutions.
We are committed to developing deep relationships with our clients, designing and engineering innovative structures, and delivering high-quality projects.
Where we came from
James’s journey as an architect and structural engineer started due to inspiration from his father.
Charlie Mifsud, known as ‘ta’ Marcoqqa’ is a respected Mosti and a renowned tradesman. He started his career as a carpenter before moving into stone masonry and steel fitting. James watched his father become successful and known throughout the country and he looked to him for motivation, guidance, and mentorship.
Design, the creation of structures, and the inclusion of skillfully crafted features and finishes is in James’s blood. This is reflected not only in the passion with which he works, but in the attention to detail, and desire to ensure that clients are happy.
The decision to focus on structural engineering means that all of his skills are channeled into one task. This provides better, smarter, and more efficient outcomes. The bonus is that he can still see things through the lens of an architect meaning he offers a high level of synchronicity and understanding when working with multidisciplinary teams.
Structure Studio was born out of tradition, family, and experience and has evolved to offer modern and effective solutions to Malta’s construction industry.

Meet the people who make this happen!
James Mifsud
James Mifsud is the founder and lead structural engineer at Structure Studio. He graduated from the University of Malta in 2003 and later obtained a Masters in Structural Engineering from the University of Surrey (2009) and later a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Malta (2013).
He has also worked in the UK as a design structural engineer with a leading structural engineering firm entrusted with the 50 St Mary Axe project in London. Spread over nine floors, 50 St Mary Axe is a multipurpose commercial space in the heart of London’s banking and insurance district.
In Malta, James has had the experience of working on some of the country’s most prestigious projects. Working with a local practice, he was responsible for quality assurance and management with the “design and build” contractors entrusted with The Point Shopping Mall complex. The Point is Malta’s largest retail center comprising some 17,000 m2 of retail floor space spread over three floors and includes indoor sports facilities and a full-size football pitch.
James also worked for Pillow Spaceframe Limited where he worked with steel fabrication and detailing. He later worked with the University of Malta Estate and Works Department leading the site team involved in the construction, finishing, and equipping of the ICT Faculty Building. A EUR 14.6 million project, it was funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is a fine example of state-of-the-art design and construction with cutting edge aesthetics.
In addition to this, James has been appointed as an Valuator for the Lands Authority and the Law Courts of Malta. He has created a database of property valuations which has formed a property price index that is continuously updated with each property valuation that is undertaken. He has completed an valuation accreditation course organised by the Kamra tal-Periti.
Having worked on prestigious projects with leading firms both locally and abroad, James wanted something more. In 2014, he started his architectural practice; ARCHIPROJECTNET, an independent consultancy firm that provided services including feasibility studies, architectural design, engineering, and project management.
The practice thrived and ARCHIPROJECTNET was appointed on several multi-million-pound projects including those with the Water and Energy Agency, Transport Malta, SportMalta, and the Foundation for Tomorrow Schools.
While the multidisciplinary practice thrived, James felt that something wasn’t quite right, and so in 2021, he decided to rebrand the practice, pick a niche, and focus on structural engineering. As such, Structure Studio was born.
